Day 1 Coaching & Consulting

POTENTIAL IS PERSON: Teen Coaching

“You are a brand new, never seen before, expression of potential.”

The teenage years are incredibly turbulent as the ego is challenged and boosted regularly with new fears and pressure from parents, school, and friends. Potential insecurities and anxieties can often lead to behavior many of us laugh off as “the teens," but in reality, many young people are suffering during these years. This is partially because they are constantly changing and evolving, and because not everybody learns or develops at the same speed, or in the same way, which can lead to conflict with the standardized norms of their schools, families, and society. In addition, the past few years have disrupted all “normals,” and created new sets of obstacles while heightening old ones. However, even when teens find themselves stuck in a rut, depressed, replaying cyclical, detrimental behavior, they each represent a unique expression of... Themselves.

Day 1 Coaching strives to empower young people to open up to and develop their self-awareness, and devise strategies to actively, and consciously, take part in their own "leveling up” process..." I coach young people to take a more proactive approach towards achieving their greatest potential at every given moment, through the practice of mindfulness, empathy, and self-discipline, which I define, in part, as self-love.

Many of the benefits of teen coaching are often consistent across experiences:

  • Stronger, more grounded sense of self, and self-worth

  • Improved relationship with family

  • Increased social literacy with peers

  • Better organization, time management, and study skills

  • Better relationship with the concept of school itself

However, the road to progress looks differently for everyone. With this in mind, approaching each child, young adult , and family differently, is essential to mapping out a path towards greater self-confidence, self-esteem, and grounded purpose, both in present endeavors and responsibilities, and in future ones .

FLEX: Parent Coaching

“Your child isn’t your replica… Your child is your upgraded replacement.”

No one has to tell you how hard being a parent can be. You are your own unique individual, with hopes, and fears, and goals of you own… And you are a parent, who is charged with raising, and protecting, and helping another being with their own hopes, fears, and goals. That is a lot of responsibility, and takes a great deal of energy. Plus, every single kid is different. They each have different personalities, quirks, brain chemistries, world views, etc, regardless of how we try to steer them.

So what if incorporating that knowledge into how we approach parenting is the key to being a successful parent? What if raising a happy, motivated, and confident kid is less about the idea of what parenting should look like, and what being a well behaved kid should look like, and more about tailoring parenting to the individual?

FLEX is all about being limber and being observant. Understanding that your child CAN’T be anything other than what they are at any, and every given moment, because they are changing at any, and every single moment. Literally, their cells are reproducing at a far faster rate than yours, and they are taking in new knowledge in far greater abundance than you are. We often demand from our children that which they are not yet prepared to deliver: Consistency.

The key is to recognize this, and to accept that your child will never be you. That is a good thing. They are the model 2.0. The next gen, capable of further evolving. But they will only achieve their potential if you, the parent, fully honor it. The schools can’t. They aren’t built that way. The work place rarely does. They don’t exist for your child, and in their mind, your child exits to serve the work. If every one of us has something special and unique within, then it is each parents job to help their child discover and manifest that greatness. That Personal Potential.

How? Let’s begin…

THE HOME TEAM: Family Coaching

“You are all in this together.”

My approach to family coaching requires similar flexibility as no two parents, marriages, or families dynamic are the same. Each parent-child relationship has it's own set of circumstances... It's own environment. The other parent, role models, siblings, etc, all represent environmental components that affect how each child childs, and each parent parents and how all are affected by their roles.

Just as children often forget that their parents are human beings with their own original experiences, wants, and needs, parents often forget that their children are original formations, who may not operate on the same frequency.  At Day 1 Coaching, I help parents find ways to bridge the gap between their established personalities and norms, and their children’s ever changing and evolving approach to life, while helping children see their parents as multifaceted beings. The goal is to create peace and balance for all members of the family, or “Home Team.”

At it’s core, the Home Team is a comprehensive program that seeks to get all members of the family in synch. Key priorities include developing a healthy and shared communication style, productive ways to move through conflict, and respect for the other individuals outside of their family title. You are all in this together.

LEVEL UP: Academic Coaching & Consulting+

“How we approach one thing is how we approach all things.”

At Day 1, the goal is to provide comprehensive support to teenage clients and their families. As an experienced educator, athlete and artist, I am able to go beyond the average success coach in how I support my clients. By taking this wholistic approach of focusing on educational enrichment and nonacademic interests and passions, I can better help young people develop the confidence to succeed in their schools, families, and within themselves.

SUBJECT TUTORING: Every student learns differently, and at times, classroom instruction does not lead to a full comprehension of material. Some classrooms are lecture focused, while many students do better with visual learning. Many students struggle with focus, while most classrooms are not set up to differentiate learning styles. Cooperating with client’s teachers and schools, I offer a full range of subject tutoring and academic enrichment in a more personalized, one-on-one setting.

EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONING: E.F. development is essential to any type of academic success. Time management, communication, and organizational skills are imperative to successfully navigating social interactions, and task performance at home, in the school, at work, etc. In addition, focus and concentration can be greatly improved by adding meditation practices to the daily regime. The ultimate goal is to help clients become more conscious and mindful of their behavior and habits, and to create new ones that allow them to excel.

SCHOOL APPLICATION SUPPORT: The high school and college application process can be stressful and daunting to the best of students and most organized of families. Where to begin, what schools to apply to, and how to approach tests and required essays are essential and complicated questions on the table. I believe that an efficient and successful approach to applying to high school, and college begins within. Identity work is at the core of our process and then is used to fuel the creation of a prospective school list and essay. In addition, I offer standardized test support, including ISEE, SAT, and ACT prep, as well as AP exam tutoring, with prioritization on test taking technique.

ATHLETE MENTAL PERFORMANCE COACHING: High school and college athletics can be a high stress world, filled with constant expectations that can overwhelm even the most talented of athletes. As a former athlete, and basketball coach, I know how important it can be to feel supported outside of the team environment. Coaching can help young men and women build confidence, motivation, focus, and navigate the politics of competitive team sports.
